Last Last Last Week’s Party: NYC Cassette Fair

The NYC Cassette Fair (aka Cassette Store Day) was amazing! It’s hard to explain what happened; you really had to be there. This must be how people feel after Burning Man. So here are photos instead!

P.S., the nice photos are by Bota Sun. She’s the best! Her photos are marked with an *asterisk.

Cassettes are portable and personal, especially mixtapes. Back in the day, you couldn’t just drag-and-drop a playlist for that special someone, it took thought, skill and time. — Sy Boccari

My first cassette was Cyndi Lauper’s She’s So Unusual, but then I bought the LP the next day to get full artwork and lyrics. — Sy Boccari

My favorite part of the cassette fair was getting to meet all the cool bands and labels, making new friends and connections. I feel like there’s so much “networking” done online via “social” media, but nothing meets the in-person interaction with bands and cassette enthusiasts who are part of this flourishing Brooklyn sub-culture! — Sy Boccari
